On
the bluffs above the Pacific Ocean in
the classic California surf town of Pismo Beach, we discovered the Cottage Inn
By the Sea. Facing swelling hills in one direction and the surging sea in the
other, the Inn was a lovely spot to wind down our latest journey along the
Central Coast.
We
settled into an ocean-view room with a warm country feel to it and immediately
opened the windows to let the sea air and surf echoes surround us. The 79
guestrooms feature fireplaces, mini fridges, microwaves and coffee makers...and
the usual travelers' necessities such as hair dryer, iron & board, extended
cable channels, etc. A continental breakfast is served in the lobby each
morning. But all we really needed was that revitalizing view and those
soothing sounds!
Beneath
our room was a charmingly terraced garden which lead to a staircase down to the
shoreline. Chairs were waiting, inviting us to relax and reflect on the
oceanscape spread out to the horizon. Those same chairs looked even better
after taking the stairs down to (and back up from) the beach below...but the
climb was worth it!
